What is an elevation certificate?

A surveyor's form showing the elevation of the home relative to the base flood elevation. Ask the builder for it — it can affect flood insurance pricing.

What does Florida require sellers to disclose about flooding?

Since October 1, 2024, Florida law (section 689.302, Florida Statutes) requires sellers of residential property to give buyers a flood disclosure covering known flood damage, flood insurance claims and federal flood assistance.

Do I need flood insurance on a new home?

Lenders require it in high-risk zones, and it's worth pricing everywhere. Standard homeowners policies don't cover flood; flood insurance is a separate policy, often with a waiting period before it takes effect.
